Beginner's course

Your website's first impression should be good, that awes the visitors and makes them want to come back to see what else you did to improve your site. If you get a bad start ( like me ) you're gonna end up like me right now. T_T Two year old website with some little improvement...

However, the only way we can improve our skills is to learn from the past. For some people, we need a rough start with our website. Then later, we can build on and learn new things. For others, they learn faster than others and hence they improve drastically, able to run a full fledge site in only month. But, that's just my thought.

Starting off: destination

You website should have a purpose. Mine, is to provide for other websites in the world. Once you have your purpose it'll be easier to create your site.

Host

There are three levels ( or at least I think ) of hosting. Free web hostings, sub domain hosting, and domain hosting.
Free webs hosting are good hosting for beginners. They don't give a lot of space, and most of them allow you to make as many accounts as you want. However, as your site grows you will start to notice how little space you have left. Also, some websites limit their affiliation requirements to no free web hosting sites, for obvious reasons. Some common sites to host are:
Freewebs.com, Bravenet.com.
Never be hosted by websites that have many popups and ads coming all over the place of your site. You will lose visitors big time. Sites like Tripod and Angelfire are some examples.

Subdomain hosting are most commonly used that shows the potential of the site instead of free web hosting sites. You get loads more space by there's always the banwidth problem. That's not a major, but something to look out for. This site was a subdomain of Oniyuri.net.

Domain hosting are what I called 'elite' sites. Almost all professional websites bought their own domain. In my point of view, you get more visitors because the sites you host will link back to you. And also, people look up to you because you actually bought your domain with money that a lot of people are afraid to do. :D

Name

I dunno. o.O Sometimes, just the title can describe your site. It's also sterotyping, but meh. But I won't name names here, that'll be rude. :)

Right to the opening of the site

Impression: layout, content, quality.

The first impression is what describes your site. Your layout describes your mind of thinking in designing. Tips on your layout:
- Colour scheme: You should have at least two colours for your scheme. One colour will be really boring, too much will turn into a rainbow. My advice is have neighboring colours or have colours only from the choices of primary colours or secondary colours.
Another thing about colour scheme is don't have neon colours. It will burn people's eyes and it will get annoying. It will not make your site as professional, as visitors leave your site really fast. Also, never use two colours that was 'opposite' of each other. Like orange and purple, red and green/blue, yellow and blue, etc.
- Size: Don't make fonts or layouts too big, nor too small. It would be wise for the main image to be less than 500px in height, and no longer than 800px in width. We don't want to scroll all the way down to the content portion of your site every page.
- Neatness: Would you rather have a messy layout all other the place?

Content has a bit of a part of the whole 'gaining' your visitors thing. I tend to move away from cap speaking and chat speak sites.

WUt d0 u thnK 0f mah layot? AINT IT LIEK KOOL?! <3
No. No. No. Scares me, especially when it's all on caps. Almost feels like they're screaming at me. =.=;; It also describes your personality a little bit.
Proper grammer, spelling, and well use of capital lettes. typing like this shows you dont really care about quality and i know sites that always have run on sentences and then suddenly changing topics in the middle of a sentence.

Next is quality. Quality always over quantity. Having the most avatars or PNGS doesn't make your site good. What's the point of making 500 of them when only one or two people are going to use them?

Expanding

Also add new things to your site, like reads or contests or some sort. Get affiliates so your site actually gets around. :)

Is that it? I'm done.

Go AWAY!

I gotta stop typing so much. -.-;; People get bored of reading these...
